dirt road through Buckskin Mountains to The Desert Bar

Slow road tripping

When you don't care when you get there

The five-mile unpaved road to the Nellie E Saloon & Desert Bar in the Buckskin Mountains of Arizona. Once the Nellie E copper mine claim, Ken Coughlin’s original bar in 1983 was a three-walled shack with five stools and some beer cans in a cooler. Today, it is almost a village with several bar areas, food, and live entertainment. Open weekends, October through April. Cash only.

Here I offer tips on how to take forever on your way to our national parks on an extended camping road trip. You’ll get there eventually.
